This wedding was always going to be a spectacular day given that I was fully aware of the planning and preparations that had gone into everything. It was a visual feast, a glamorous Gatsby inspired affair with a contemporary twist and Sarah the bride certainly knew how to get it right, down to the last detail.

I knew Sarah and Damien through a mutual friend who’s wedding I had also captured. It was as a result of this that I was asked to capture this very special day.

The civil ceremony and celebrations took place at The Old Vicarage Boutique Hotel in the beautiful village of Southwell in the county of Nottinghamshire. A bespoke and unique hotel it was the perfect setting for this stunning wedding day. When I arrived preparations were well under way. The bridal party included Sarah and Damien’s beautiful daughters, Sarah’s Mum, Sister Emma and friends Lucy and Michelle. There was plenty of time to capture some detail shots in addition to documenting the preparations, including an air brush make up artist who’s work was fabulous.

Damien the groom is an avid cyclist and on the morning of his wedding had chosen, along with his best man Liam to head off out on the open road. Upon their return made use of the facilities on offer the The Old Vicarage and for Liam a soak in the hot tub was very much appreciated. Soon after it was time for start their morning preparations and I was able to spend a short time with them to capture a few shots.

Downstairs in the hotel, the ceremony room was being prepared and on display already was the aromatic themed wedding cake in prime position for everyone to see. The ceremony table was positioned in front of a beautiful feature window overlooking the hotel gardens and sat on top of this small wooden letters spelled out the word ‘love’.
Just inside the reception area was the perfect spot for the couple’s candy table complete with vintage candy bags. The wedding breakfast tables were also set out and complete with humorous caricature name cards for their planned occupants

Upstairs in the bridal suite Sarah was having final touches to her hair and make up and it was then time to get into her gorgeous Augusta Jones Designer Gown, supplied by Emily Bridal in Sheffield.

The reveal to Sarah’s Father was very emotional. The moment he saw Sarah his eyes filled with tears. It was a very special moment for both of them. I left, giving them some time together and dashed to catch Damien before he headed off to join his guests before rejoining Sarah for a few final shots before she was escorted down the isle.

After a beautiful and very emotional civil ceremony, the guests made their way out into the sunshine to congratulate the happy couple.

After group shots and a full-on confetti shower it was time to make use of the grounds surrounding the Old Vicarage, which include a private courtyard and a fabulous tree swing. The perfect backdrop for great photographs with this stunning couple.

Guests were soon seated in anticipation of their wedding breakfast and warmly welcomed into the room the new Mr & Mrs Shakespeare. Speeches soon followed which on this occasion included a few words from the bride who was able to speak freely knowing that the friendly heckler had already been bound and gagged.

The remainder of the evening saw the couple’s additional friends arriving in time to witness the cutting of the cake and first dance, after which there was a little time to photograph Sarah in the beautiful bridal suite with it’s stunning, ornate bed; after which there was a final few shots of the new Mr & Mrs in front of The Old Vicarage.

I said my goodbyes leaving Damien and Sarah celebrating their fabulous wedding day.
