Set on the banks of the River Derwent, West Mill is a lovingly restored, Grade I Listed, former industrial cotton mill dating back to the early 1800’s. The mill has been restored and converted into the most incredible wedding venue and I was honoured that my first visit to this stunning setting was to capture the wedding of James & Jacinta.

I arrived well ahead of the Bridal party in order to explore the venue and find the best photography locations which we would use later in the day.

It was a chilly, but bright November day but the sun was shining, Jacinta and her bridal party arrived almost ready, with just their final touches to sort and then it was into their dresses in readiness for the ceremony. The venue benefits from it’s very own ‘dressing room’, the perfect space with ample room, natural light and mirrors.

James was patiently waiting for his bride to be in the ceremony room with it’s incredible industrial architecture.

Surrounded by their closest family and friends they exchanged their loving vows with each another and after signing the register the newlyweds were awaiting their walk down the isle, however their friends had other plans, and soon their guests, with live piano accompaniment were all singing ‘Lean on Me’ for the couple and the look on Jacinta’s face was priceless, it was a very spontaneous and emotional moment that everyone was able to participate in.

Outside we captured the necessary the ‘must have’ shot at West Mill, which is the confetti tunnel, where all guests line up armed with as much confetti they can muster, creating a tunnel of coloured petals for the newlyweds to walk through.

After the family formals it was time for the couple and myself to have a little wander and during this time we captured some beautiful shots of them together.

Back inside and it was soon time for the wedding breakfast, followed by some emotional and heartfelt speeches. The Best Man certainly did his duties with his entertaining and fun speech.

As the light was dimming there was a little family portrait to capture with the couple and their beautiful little girl who was not feeling 100% on the day, but after a good nap she was able to join Mummy and Daddy for some precious family memories.

The evening guests began to arrive and soon it was time for the cutting of the beautiful cake, made by a family member and then straight into the couple’s first dance, where they were serenaded by their fabulous party band ‘We Have You Covered”.

Downstairs the Photo Boot was in full swing, with his quick fire approach and exuberant personality, it certainly made the experience fun for those making use of the extensive props. The final printed images soon found their way into the couple’s guest book where personal messages were left; a fabulous idea and one that will no doubt cause the couple many years of laughter. as they read the comments back.

It was then simply a case of me saying my goodbyes to leave the delightful couple, their friends and family to celebrate into the small hours and dance the night away.
